Magento Training Course Feedback

We just ran our Magento training course last week and despite some technical issues at the start of the day I think it was a great success. By the end of the day the delegates all knew their Attribute Sets from their Attribute Groups, could set up layered navigation, create configurable products the fastest way possible without using spreadsheets and generally had a good grounding to go and make the most out of their Magento web shops.

If you are interested in doing some Magento training, we have more course coming up all the time, just give us a call on 0844 357 0201 or drop as a line via our contact form.

Thought you might like my own feedback and comments and they be of help to others considering the course.

Late start 20 minutes – ah technology we all suffer sometimes – but you made up for this by a much later finish.

I got everything I wanted out of the day and more. The more was the pen drive with xampp and the documentation. Great thanks. Had it working in about 2mins after the copy across and have made extensive use of it since to help with my understanding. A nice thing to be able to do while sat in Costa Coffee.

The only way for more learning would have been if we had more time.
For example I would have liked to have had a look at skinning and add ons etc with the two (multi) way conversation also being possible. But I was there evaluating the software so had different needs from other who had never seen say processing an order before. Not a complaint just a comment.

The day moved at a good rate with acceptable breaks.
They can be to long and if I am losing a day of productivity at work and paying for training then I want a day of productivity at training and a return on my time and costs.
I liked you being with us during the breaks and not wandering off into an office somewhere.

I liked your approach and manner and knowledge. You were also clear and upfront where you did not really know something or where you did not really have say interest or maybe skills (design).

The size of the group was good.

From the little I do now know about magento I can see totally why you had the approach you did and saw as key the understanding of attributes – attribute sets – product types and associating products etc.
I think if I had not done the course that knowledge and understanding that perhaps took about 3 hours of the time (?) i would have floundered pointlessly around with for far far longer. Perhaps made worse because I would have brought my cs cart head to the situation whereas this fundamental design approach is very different and a few questions/answers plus examples move me rapidly through this understanding.

I can already spot sites that have set things up wrong.

Fascinating to compare cs and magento.
I now feel i have just what I need to be able to do the research well and come to a final conclusion on going forwards.
As always there is no perfect cart it all depends what you are looking for.

It is currently looking Magento by the way now I can see how to solve some of the problems using and add on or two.

What did I not get from the day and that I would have liked and need to crack really.
The understanding of the use of themes and add ons and widgets and problems to do with them etc.
An approach to researching the ones that I might need.
Different carts draw the line at different stages and in different ways. If you have not used a cart much then it is near impossible to know what comes from where and this is costing my time.
Is it core functionality and a setting – or is it in the theme – or is it an add on. And it could be a mixture of all there so which bit is doing what.
I have no doubt you could look at this and see in seconds but to me …..

I suspect my requirements of the day may have been different but if you have experienced cart users I would skip some of the pretty standard bits like seeing an order go through the system and move the time across to this. They did not take up a lot of time but to myself were pointless.

If you put on a course that covered this area before I sort out what I am going to do then I would be down there like a shot – it is now the brake on what to do and I feel am I being unproductive and floundering around.

Part related to the day.
Good location – nice building to be in – fine food – very hot building.

Anyway I hope the above feedback helps and thanks for a very productive day.

Having had my site set up and installed by Joseph and having played around with it a little, I realised that I needed a little extra info about Magento.

Totally covered all of the complexities of setting up different product types, as well as attributes and attribute sets which enable powerful layered navigation.

Great building, good pace, nice to be able to try it out for yourself and to be given a test package to go away and play with. ( my only complaint would be that the test environment only works on windows and I am a Mac girlie!).

Maybe some more thought through examples of different types of installations, even it is is only showing some sites that have been set up in different ways would have helped the overall understanding of the different options available in Magento.

Would like to know more about the overall architecture but I realise that this is not what the day was all about.

I would recommend Joseph as a someone who has a great understanding of Magento and its capabilities. The training was that little extra bit that I needed to get me up and running.

Right I am off to fix all my products now ( having set them all up slightly incorrectly!)

My colleague and myself went on a one day Magento course and at the end of the day we left with a vast amount of knowledge that will be useful for us in the future. Joseph, our tutor, was first class and gave us as much assistance as he possibly could in the time we spent together.
I would not hestitate to recommend Joseph and I wouldn’t look anywhere else for Magento tuition.
