Gnome System Monitor

When a Program becomes unresponsive

A program can easily become unresponsive so to restart it follow the following steps;

  • Open up the System Monitor, you can do this by searching it in the directory.

    It should look like this

  • In this case Slack is unresponsive. Right-clicking and pressing End or Kill will not do anything in this situation as you need to end the root of the process.

  • To show the process tree select the drop down options menu and select the item named "Dependencies"

  • Once the full process tree is shown follow the tree to the parent process, in this case it's slack --disable-gpu. Simply right click that process and press Kill.
